Going Home

I finally wrote a litte on my other blog site where I am journaling about my work towards service dog breeding, training and support and I thought I would share it with you guys. So here it is.

It's been so long since I've blogged. I've been so busy with the upkeep of this litter, I have had NO TIME at all, even to photograph. The only time I can get anything done is when they are asleep and it always turns out that the cutest moments happen when I have no camera.! The pups went to the vet yesterday and got a glowing report! Dr Jeanne Metzler is very experienced in the show field in addition to her great work as a vet. She loved their faces, heads, pigment and mostly the fronts, great stifle and great otter tails. She said that the breeding must have "clicked" as she has not seen this nice of a Labrador litter for a very long time! The pups will be going home starting this week, and as I haven't sold little Zuzu, I plan to keep her a bit to beef her up. Dr. Metzler said she is perfectly formed just little and will probably be the best pup. I'm so happy I took the extra time it took to keep her healthy and alive! Two of the pups are destined for Good Dog! Autism Companions in San Diego, CA. This will be my first service dog placement and I am so excited to see how they do. Laura at Good Dog! says that she hasn't had so many great puppies to choose from EVER. We narrowed it down to 2 with input from me (the breeder who knows them best) so brown (boy) and white( girl) will be off to their trainers in Southern California next week. I will miss them all so so much!! they are just the best litter of pups, all sweet and fun and no little buggers in the bunch! SO - I realized last night that some of my dreams are being realized RIGHT NOW. I bred and placed my first service dogs, and one friend of mine bought 4 of my books (Sophie Finds a Friend- you are all getting a copy ) at Christmas to give to her therapist friends, and they are now using my book in their work with autism kids!! Wow, with so much going on in my life right now as the pups head out to their forever homes, I needed to take a moment and savor the feelings that I have right now. Even if I only help one person, or change one life, it is enough. Much thanks goes to Bonnie Bergin and Bergin University for the education and being of my "people" who love dogs and who have vision, Gwen Amos endless design and art support and in general keeping me centered, Cindy Ellis and Elaine Dal Bon, the breeders who helped me create and raise this beautiful litter of pups. Changing lives for the better. That is what this journey is all about. And guess what? My life is all the better too! Thanks for following along with me. It means ALOT.
